SRN – D-Day – To End the War, V01 Netcue for local break
On the morning of June 6, 1944, the largest seaborne invasion in the history of the world took place. That first Allied landing was made up of over 156,000 troops, 12,000 aircraft, with almost 6,000 ships and landing craft. This invasion came to be known as D-Day.
By the time the full invasion had taken place over a 5 day period, over 326,000 Allied troops were there, all fighting for one thing – to end the War! Today there are 27 cemeteries there holding the remains of over 110,000 brave men who died fighting for the cause of freedom.
This Veterans Day 2019, I have been given an awesome opportunity and a truly somber task – to help those who were there to tell their stories. On the 75th Anniversary this year on D-Day I was there at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA. It was truly one of the most moving events that I have ever attended. I have spoken to four of the men who were there at D-Day in 1944, and they have told me, firsthand, what happened, what it was like – and they are telling their stories in this 1 hour special, all weaved together to tell this story of that D-Day invasion.
Please do not let your listeners miss this amazing opportunity to hear “D-Day – To End the War”. Before we know it, all of those who were there will be gone, and their stories lost forever.
It is a harsh story of war, but it is so much more – it is a powerful story of the selfless sacrifice given by so many to assure our freedom – our children must hear – we all must hear – and remember.
My desired goal for this Veterans Day program?
To remind us all that FREEDOM ISN’T FREE and that we should all make the effort to let our veterans know just how very much we appreciate their great service to our nation.
