to the front panel pushbuttons are given with respect to starting from
the "Home Screen." To get there from any current display on your

Navigate through the receiver front-panel menus:
The menu layout gives a brief
explanation. In more detail:
-
The <Right> and <Left> buttons are used to scroll through the menus
to find the desired menu item.
-
Once at the desired menu item, the <SELECT> button will either select
the next menu level or place you into Edit mode, allowing you to change
the values.
-
In Edit mode, the <Up> and <Down> buttons allow you to change the
selected item to the desired value.
-
Where applicable in the Edit mode, the <Right> and <Left> buttons
are used to select the next item in the screen for editing.
-
Once all items have been set to the correct values, the <ENTER> key
will execute the desired changes.
-
In Edit mode, the <SELECT> button will cancel out of Edit mode without
saving changes.
-
List which audio channels labels are currently available on the Unity
4000:
To find out what audio channels are available on the Unity 4000, you
need only query the receiver for an MPEG status.
-
Press <Right> 4 times. Press <SELECT> when you see STATUS
REPORTS.
-
Press <Right> 2 times. Press <SELECT> when you see the MPEG
STATUS.
-
Press <Right> 3 times. AUDIO PRESENCE will show on the
top line, with the 3-letter codes for each audio channel listed below.
Use the <Right> and <Left> keys to scroll through the list.
-
Tune a certain audio channel to a certain port:
-
If you have used a terminal to configure the Preselect Tables (you cannot configure
the Preselect Table from the front panel):
-
Press <Right> once. Press <SELECT> when you see AUDIO SETTINGS.
-
The screen will read PRESET SELECT: PORT 1. If you desire to modify
another port, use the <Right> and <Left> buttons to cycle through
to the other port. Press <SELECT> when you see the port you desire
to modify.
-
Use the <Up> and <Down> buttons to select a preset configuration.
Press <ENTER> to excute your choice, or press <SELECT> to cancel.
-
The screen will return to the PRESET SELECT: PORT X display. If you
desire to modify another port, use the <Right> and <Left> buttons
to cycle through to the other port. Press <SELECT> when you see
the port you desire to modify, and repeat the above step.
NOTE: You cannot select a service to more than one
port simultaneously. Attempting to do so will display the following:
XYZ: Program used on PortX: Move to PortY.
If you press <ENTER> at this point, it will REMOVE the selected
service from the previous port, and move it to the currently selected port.
Press <Up> or <Down> to choose "Cancel" and hit <ENTER> to
cancel the operation.
-
If you have not configured the Preselect Tables:
-
Press <Right> once. Press <SELECT> when you see AUDIO SETTINGS.
-
Press <Right> 4 times. Press <SELECT> when you see DETAILED
SETTINGS.
-
The screen will come up on Port 1. Press <Right> the appropriate
number of times if you desire to change another port. Press <SELECT>
to enter Edit mode for this channel.
-
The SRVC ("Service") begins flashing. Use <Up> and <Down> to
select the desired audio channel.
-
Press <Right> or <Left> to select another field to modify in this
screen, if desired. You can adjust the Attenuation (between 0 and
14 dB of attenuation -- no amplification is possible), as well as
the Route (S=Stereo, R=Reverse, 1=Left Encoder input on both receiver outputs,
2=Right Encoder input on both receiver outputs).
NOTE: If the selected audio channel is a mono channel, the Route
has no effect. You may still select it, but it will not affect the
audio routing. (An audio channel encoded in mono cannot be played
as anything but mono.)
-
Press <ENTER> to execute your changes, or press <SELECT> to cancel.
-
Properly route a dual-mono channel:
An audio channel may be encoded at the originating source as either
a Mono signal or as a Dual Mono signal. If the signal is encoded
as Dual Mono, it may actually be a stereo pair, or it may have discreet
(independent) audio on left and right inputs. If you desire to utilize
a dual-mono audio channel that contains discreet audio, you will have to
select the appropriate Route setting when you select the audio channel.
As noted above, the following four choices are available:
|
S
|
Stereo
Encoder Left input to Receiver Left output
Encoder Right input to Receiver Right output |
|
1
|
1 on Both
Encoder Left input to Receiver Left output
Encoder Left input to Receiver Right output |
|
2
|
2 on Both
Encoder Right input to Receiver Left output
Encoder Right input to Receiver Right output |
|
R
|
Reverse Stereo
Encoder Left input to Receiver Right output
Encoder Right input to Receiver Left output |
You may set just the audio routing by following the above
steps, and change just the routing without adjusting the Service. This only works when you are
not using Preselect configurations, as the Preselects store the audio routing.
-
Properly route a mono channel:
If the signal is encoded as a mono source, the receiver will output the
same signal on both Left and Right outputs, regardless of the Route
setting.
-
Set the receiver label:

Press <SELECT> when you see PRINTER SETTINGS or MODEM SETTINGS, as appropriate.
NOTE: The Terminal settings are slaved to follow
the Modem settings. Set the Modem speed to change the Terminal speed.
-
Use <Up> and <Down> to modify the baud rate serial port, and <Up> and <Down> to modify the selection. (The Printer Port also allows modification of the Parity setting.)
-
Press <ENTER> to save changes, or <SELECT> to cancel.
-
Read email when the front panel says "WARNING: Email Present":
-
Press <Right> 2 times. Press <SELECT> when you see EMAIL READ:<SELECT>
-
Press <Right> as many times as needed to scroll through the message. <Left> may be used to
scroll backwards if needed.
